Company History

What began as a small New York-based contracting business in the early 1920's has grown to become a powerful industry player in New York and New England, with a growing presence in the Southeast.

The Vellano family and its roots in the construction industry date back over 80 years, when Paul Vellano started Paul Vellano Contracting. During the Great Depression, the company was involved in general construction, with an emphasis on water and sewer projects. After World War II, Paul was joined by his sons, John A. and Anthony, both decorated war veterans who were eager to work in the business. With great pride, Vellano Bros., Inc. was founded in 1946. In 1956, the company was incorporated under the name Vellano Bros., Inc.

The company began to work exclusively in the installation of municipal pipe and accessories, and became well aware of the needs of being a successful construction company. After facing repeated supply problems, the company began stocking materials for its own projects and soon realized the need in the industry for a supply house.

In 1966, Vellano Bros., Inc. opened their home office in New York - the company's first branch. By 1972, the supply business became 100 percent of operations. The company now boasts 13 branch locations in five states: New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Alabama.

Over the last 30 years, the company has grown from a family business employing 14 people to a recognizable name in the industry, employing more than 100 hard-working, dedicated individuals, while still retaining its small-business personality.
